Pet Surgery

At The Village Vet, our experienced veterinary surgeons are skilled in performing a wide range of soft tissue surgeries to ensure the health and well-being of your beloved pets. Soft tissue surgeries involve procedures that address non-bony structures of the body, such as organs, skin, and muscles. We offer a comprehensive array of soft tissue surgeries, including the diagnosis and treatment of lumps through fine-needle aspirates (FNAs) and biopsies.

Lump Evaluation:

If you discover a lump or bump on your pet's body, it is essential to have it evaluated by our veterinary team. We will conduct a thorough examination, assessing the size, shape, and consistency of the lump. To gather more information, we may recommend performing a fine-needle aspirate (FNA).

Fine-Needle Aspirate (FNA): An FNA is a minimally invasive procedure in which a thin needle is used to collect cells from the lump. The collected cells are then examined under a microscope to determine the nature of the lump. FNAs are often performed under sedation or local anaesthesia, ensuring your pet's comfort throughout the procedure. This technique allows us to quickly gather valuable information, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment planning.

Biopsies:

In cases where a lump or suspicious tissue requires further evaluation, a biopsy may be recommended. A biopsy involves the surgical removal of a small sample of tissue, which is then sent to a laboratory for detailed analysis. This procedure helps us identify the nature of the lump, such as whether it is benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Biopsies are typically performed under general anaesthesia to ensure your pet's safety and comfort.
