PET MICROCHIPPING

Why should I microchip my pet?

Microchipping is a simple and effective way to increase the chances of being reunited with your pet if they go missing. Unlike collars and tags, which can be lost or removed, a microchip is a permanent form of identification that cannot be easily tampered with. It provides a reliable and secure way of identifying your pet and proving ownership, and it is the ACT law to have your pet microchipped in the ACT.

How does the microchipping process work?

The microchipping process is quick, safe, and virtually painless for your pet. Our trained veterinarians will use a sterile needle to implant the microchip just beneath the surface of your pet's skin, typically between the shoulder blades. The procedure is similar to a routine vaccination and can be performed during a regular visit to our clinic.

Is microchipping only for dogs?

No, microchipping is beneficial for all types of pets, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and even exotic animals. It is particularly important for animals that spend time outdoors or are prone to wander, as they are at higher risk of becoming lost or displaced.

How do I update my contact information?

After your pet is microchipped, it is essential to keep your contact information up to date in the microchip database. If you change your address, phone number, or any other contact details, simply notify the microchip company or registry where your pet's microchip is registered. You can also do this here. This ensures that you can be reached promptly if your lost pet is found.

What should I do if my pet goes missing?

If your pet goes missing, contact local animal shelters, veterinary clinics, and animal control agencies to report them as lost. Provide them with your pet's microchip number, which will aid in their identification. Additionally, make sure to alert the microchip company or registry about your missing pet. They can assist in spreading the word and coordinating efforts to locate your furry friend.

Can microchips track my pet's location?

Microchips do not have GPS tracking capabilities. They are passive devices that only contain the identification number. However, if your pet is found and taken to a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or rescue organisation, they can use a microchip scanner to read the identification number and contact the appropriate microchip registry to retrieve your contact information.

Microchipping is a valuable investment in your pet's safety and security. By choosing to microchip your pet, you take an important step towards ensuring their well-being and increasing the chances of a happy reunion should they ever become lost.
